If you've never done crochet toys, it's fairly easy to get started! All you need is some yarn and a crochet hook, and a yarn needle and you're good to go. Some fantastic beginners guides to start you out making yarn toys (called amigurumi) can be found on All About Ami and Planet June.
Any crochet toy can be for your cat as long as you make sure it's safe (replace safety eyes with felt, yarn, or embroidery, only use natural fill, etc.).
Stuff some catnip inside these patterns and you've got yourself a great cat toy:

Needle felting can seem daunting if you've never tried it -- and it can take some getting used to -- but with a little practice, it's a great way to make cat toys that are 100% natural. (In fact, needle felting is the technique CC Design uses to create our toys!) Craftsy has a beginner's guide, and once you've got the basics down you can see more in-depth guides on YouTube, like this informative video.
